There are hardware solutions available for virtually every RS pole application. In most cases, hardware for steel and concrete poles can be readily used on RS poles.

There are a few simple guidelines to follow when selecting hardware for use on RS poles:

  • Avoid hardware with cleats which is designed for use with wood poles
  • Avoid sharp edge contact by ensuring the radius of curved hardware is correctly matched to the RS pole diameter
  • Spread the load over the pole surface with square curved washers
  • Back through bolts with curved square washers
  • Pole bands effectively use the RS pole’s consistent taper. Note, do not use pole bands that incorporate a through bolt.

Almost all hardware manufacturers offer a flat backed version of cleated hardware they produce for wood poles.

Hardware components designed with a small radius will result in a sharp edge contacting the pole wall. If there are no larger radii versions of the hardware available, place a backer plate or use square curved washers between the pole and the hardware component to protect the pole.

Wood, steel or composite cross arms and cross braces can be used with RS poles.

RS poles can be climbed with either steps or ladders.

Note: The RS pole selector is based on CSA Grade 2 construction with a maximum AGH deflection limit of 22% at class load for tangent and self supporting poles with line angles ≤3°. The M5/6 is not shown in the module tree as it is a base only module that stacks under the M4. The AGH shown is based on a standard embedment assumption of 10% of the pole height plus 2 ft. [0.61m] for poles 40 ft. [12.2m] and over and 10% plus 2.5 ft. [0.76m] for poles less than 40 ft. [12.2m]. The RS pole selector is for demonstration purposes only.
